Preventing Duplicate ResponsesPro
Stop the same person from submitting the same survey multiple times with the duplicate response prevention feature.
Preventing duplicate responses
When you want to stop the same person from responding to the same survey more than once, use the duplicate response limit. There are two methods, and you can turn both on together.
| Method | Basis | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Browser duplicate prevention | The respondent's browser | Easy to set up, but they can respond again in a different browser or in private mode |
| Once per verified user | A verified email, phone number, or external member ID | The limit holds even when they switch devices |
How to set it up
Go to the Respondents tab
Click the ⚙️ icon in the top right of the editor to open survey settings, then select Respondents from the tab list on the left.
Choose a method
Turn on the toggle you want in the Duplicate responses section. The summary sentence at the top of the section shows the current setting at a glance.
| Setting | Summary shown |
|---|---|
| Nothing enabled | The same person can respond multiple times |
Once per verified user enabled | Only one response per verified email, phone number, or external member ID |
1. Browser duplicate prevention
- Someone who has already responded in the same browser cannot respond again.
- After responding, the survey page won't open and a message explains that a response has already been submitted.
- They can still respond again in a different browser, on another device, or in private mode.
2. Once per verified user
-
Responses are limited to one per verified email, phone number, or external member ID. The limit holds even if they change device or browser, so duplicates are blocked more reliably.
-
To turn this toggle on, you need a way to identify respondents. If you enable it without a verification method, email verification is turned on with it.

The identifying basis depends on your settings.

Good to know
Turning off User verification also turns off Once per verified user. If you've toggled verification settings off and on, double-check that the duplicate limit hasn't been released.
Scheduling Survey Start and End Times
Schedule your survey to start or end automatically at a specific time. No more manual updates — the survey opens and closes on the schedule you set.
Responding While Logged In
Respondents don't need a Walla account. They can start responding by entering a password shared in advance, or a verification code sent to their email address or phone number.
